The Thompson 7 concept evolved from the demands for a sportsboat with the very latest features at a reasonable price.  Australian and New Zealand designers were light years ahead of world trends in this hotbed of innovations, but advancements had materialised in the 8 to 9 metres sportsboat arena - at an incredibly high cost.
In 1999 a group of enthusiasts commissioned Kiwi designer Steve Thompson to refine his amateur built T6.5 for production in Australia.  The result is a considerably faster, more powerful hull that's stable, forgiving and FUN!!  At 7 metres, even boasting the very best and latest materials, technology and equipment, the Thompson 7 One Design is affordable.

Race results signal the success of the T7 concept, with wins in the 2001 and 2002 Australian Sportsboat National Titles and easy victories in the 2001 and 2002 Trailer Yacht Association Sportsboat Nationals as well as many, many mixed fleet performance handicap regattas.  Enthusiastic fleets are sailing in Melbourne and Sydney and Perth numbers are growing steadily.  Hard fought One Design events are now sailed on the Australian East Coast.

We at the Sailing Scene are committed to the success of this class.  Our 110% effort extends to campaigning the shop "demonstrator" at high profile regattas and promotion of Thompson 7 specific racing.  Production moulds are wholly owned by this business and with the T7 owners' full support, class rule integrity, warranty backup and product promotion are assured.

Our dream of a truly competitive One Design Sportsboat fleet has become a reality, and the Thompson 7 is established as THE SPORTSBOAT performance sailors choose to campaign.
